Well the sun did peek through allowing enough time for a recent carnival style birthday party at Myreside Edinburgh which

got rave reviews.Fantastic ,brilliant etc and the best disco ever were some of the comments but heh hoh that's why its important to

work on a theme party. Set the scene with props, ie Palm trees, hula girls and sunshades and even without alcohol the party was bouncing.

A little bit of limbo a touch of BeachBoys  surfing then enter the Tunnel of Love  and see where it leads. Great fun was had by all.

Follow that with a 5 star wedding at Houston House with pretty girls all in a row and The Mad Hatman pops up like the Radio Renegade.

Anyway look out Arnold Clark Motors Seafield as The Mad Hatter prepares the red carpet for an Oscars style Promotion with cars and girls.

With great music, special deals, prizes and a BBQ for customers on 6th June from 10am and 7th from 11am  its definitely worth a visit!

Still waiting for DVD and  documentary filmed at Backtracks Music Edinburgh a few weeks ago.

Backtracks was selected as an interesting and diverse business combining music styles and equipmennt

from different eras under one roof. In addition the huge selection of film ,video,dvds and computer games

 add to huge collection of vinyl records, guitars and TV equipment and accessories available.

Following The Edinburgh Evening News story re PENSIONERS problems with heating costs etc. and Age Concern highlighting

this with "wear a hat day" on 5th December.

Mad Hatman Discos fully support all concerned and are available to help other people running an event looking for  entertainment support.

At Christmas time although we are all busy spare a thought "wear a hat to work on the 5th and organise an event to support it.

With dozens of different hats to cover many professions from Top Hats, to Sombreros The Mad Hatman may be able to assist others to create a successful event and raise cash for cold alarms etc

 

Another busy weekend with very happy partygoers and clients dancing,singing and having a ball.

A wee while sinceKaraoke took centre stage but what a difference when using a huge wall to wall screen as a monitor and backdrop to the dancefloor. No excuses for not seeing the words either but unfortunately it never improved my voice but provided me with two lovely girls to assist on screen.

Busy weekend ahead with darker nights and Christmas just around the corner. First I will have to entertain 50 ladies? Ages to be determined but no doubt coming to Edinburgh for a fun hen night and music to get them "in the mood". Surprising how friends are more interested in helping out . Perhaps I also need a new game suggestion to tickle their fancy!!!!!! 

 

 No doubt Edinburgh Freshers week, Halloween and St Andrews night  will also attract enquiries for Mad Hatman Discos following previous great fun nights where we can keep all comers happy with a mix of cheesy pop, indie classics and party gems.

  Golf will be high on the agenda this week and will mean more people coming in to Backtracks picking up second hand golf games and golf clubs with an increase in Ryder Cup  interest. 

Lastly look out for the Mad Hatter supporting Scotland and invite any Norwegians to contact me to exchange flags at Backtracks music shop Tollcross before world cup qualifier in October

Not long now till Edinburgh is awash with performers,actors, comedians, singers, ladyboys  and tourists to swell an already bustling city. This year at Backtracks music we look forward to seeing more upcoming acts and remember seeing great comedians and performers now household names in pubs,clubs and halls entertaining  a handful of people when they left it too late to generate a local groundswell.  The choice is unbelievable in August and although posters help a recommendation by nearby shops is the best advertising available. Although space is limited at Backtracks pop in to our Aladdin's Cave of music,games,DVD, tvs,and second hand goodies  etc where performers pick up bargains plus low cost PROPS for their shows . I like to help those who drop in and reciprocate by telling others which shows to see.We   serve a broad selection of young and older customers very close to the city centre. No doubt I will be wearing my other hat some  nights providing mobile sound systems and dj entertainment under The Mad Hatman guise providing a broad spectrum of music from many eras .

Look out for The Mad Hatter figure outside to welcome you to Brougham Street and the occasional snappy crocodile.in Tollcross Edinburgh.

A weekend entertaining at Dobbies Garden Centre proved an interesting experience and brought new challenges experiences and thoughts.Initially brought in to provide music to enhance this huge garden complex which also hosts Butterfly world . On Saturday The Mad Hatman provided a cool jazzy backdrop and encouraged support for cancer care volunteers who were collecting.The day flew past with childrens face painting , talking up store  promotions, iinteraction with staff and customers  coupled with tunes I hadn't played in years for  an older generation.Back on Sunday The Mad Hatter also arrived and  as well as looking the part he was charming the ladies and snakes, wearing a python hatband and millipede hatpin. The Hatman also met those Goldwing motorcycle boys collecting for Alzheimer's disease and a couple who introduced themselves as satisfied customers from 15 years ago when I organised and played at their wedding . The diversity of people and music Mad Hatman discos has entertained over the years was brought home when they reminded me how well the function went even coping with some heavy metal and gothic requests. A huge deviation from our traditional Scottish weddings playing popular music, party favourites and age old classics to guests. I can now look forward to forthcoming discos and Karaokes,playing to ladies beach volleyball players and Beltane birthday bashes in urban farmhouses! No wonder I need different hats for every occasion 

Good Luck to all girls taking part in breast cancer's Edinburgh Moonwalk starting   in The Meadows close to Backtracks music shop at Tollcross on Sat 14th June 2008. Happy to support you in your quest and if music is the food of life offer plenty good tunes in cd , mp3 , headphones or radios available call in during the day.We may even offer a free massage!   

Following the success of  the Marathon  Expo event on Saturday 24th  in The Next Generation leisure complex Edinburgh  Mad Hatman disco was asked to present and entertain with  a marathon roadshow event on Sunday in  Port Seton. Despite no notification it was a tremendous success with quite a few accolades re the sound and music played. This type of event  only becomes special when you put on a show and add great enthusiasm to a visual  spectacle. Sited at the entrance to the caravan park in a mobile home with an impressive sund system The Mad Hatman  interacted with the runners and spectators using his radio microphone to mingle whilst keeping the event flowing playing a vast selection of  singalong upbeat anthems and  road songs.Having met Canadian,Italian, and Irish runners at Expo it was time to meet up to 57 nationalities on the ground. On a cold and windy foreshore stood 4 girls? Carol, Caroline,Sandra & Kirsty who I discovered were from breast cancer care and they were a fantastic credit to the charity.With cold hands but warm hearts(I checked)they sang,danced, coaxed and cajoled the runners and after 14 miles out and 21 miles on the return a smile was brought to many faces. Oh what a night! A very rare occurrance but how must the couple have felt to arrange their special party and only a small number of guests turning up.Eventually more arriving later but  you feel how can I make this a success. It was therefore  terrific satisfaction to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves so much they wanted to stay longer when an early night looked likely. One thing for sure if I cant get people dancing I'll give up but not likely when clients appreciate the effort saying disco was great. 

How time flies! 25 Years is a long time but congratulations to Iaan and Pat on your 25th (silver) Wedding Anniversary.

Just goes to show how long I've been entertaining in this disco business.Even better when the couple are still together

and still remember special songs from their great wedding party they had in Edinburgh at the time.

It is even more amazing to think that you have outlasted the Suffolk Hall Hotel which had been an Edinburgh hotel landmark and perhaps the most attractive building in Edinburgh's South side. Unfortunately it has now closed down and was converted for use as a Private school.

 Recently I started to put some disco reviews online but could have added many more from all those years ago.Overall,there are not many occasions I have not covered but remember being asked to dj as far afield as Liverpool, London,The Borders  and all over central Scotland. I can look back on the hundreds of successful parties , discos and big charity events,all over Scotland. since 1977 and  have  receive accolades and awards as a reminder ,which is  appreciated.

 Having built up Mad Hatman discos ,year on year it  evolves and improves with fantastic sound and amazing lighting compared with what was available 30 years ago.  Digital sound now replacing boxes of heavy vinyl  but the trick is still being able to put together a programme which changes with each party and encourage friends and families to integrate  using  the dancefloor as a barometer to build the atmosphere over the night.

 So overall still looking forward to forthcoming weddings booked in some of the best hotels in Edinburgh and other interesting events from huge themed  Medieval mayday events to small childrens birthday parties and  upcoming engagements .

Hogmanay  31st Dec After huge success at Nobles Bar Leith Mad Hatman Discos were asked to return and bring in this New Year 2008 All was going well until major fire damage above  pub caused extensive damage Great news however  now playing at Caledonian Bar Haymarket from 9pm A great atmosphere is guaranteed but early birds will get best vantage and not be left wishing they had arrived earlier.
